Prayer Resources
‘Rejoice always, pray continually!’

  Thessalonians 5:16-18

Sometimes we don’t have the words to pray or even know where to start.
When you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you – Matthew 6:6
Here’s a prayer that you can pray now – or anytime! The Lord’s Prayer is the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples, when they asked him how they should pray.
Our Father in heaven,
 hallowed be your name,
 your kingdom come,
 your will be done,
 on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
 Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
 Lead us not into temptation
 but deliver us from evil.
 For the kingdom, the power,
 and the glory are yours
 now and for ever.
 Amen.
The text of The Lord’s Prayer is found in two slightly different versions in the New Testament – Matthew 6.9–13 and Luke 11.1–4
The prayer as we use it today is a version that was adapted by the early Christian communities from the two Gospel texts, and it was taught in this form to new converts.
The final sentence, giving glory to God, is called the doxology. It is not part of the New Testament text, but was added very early on.

Get the Bible
Download the YouVersion Bible app for free. In addition to the bible, it has study plans and lots of other content.
Buy a physical Bible
If you don’t have one, we recommend buying a physical bible too, to help you when you pray. This is the one we use in our services at Chanctonbury.
Going through a tough time?
Look for the Psalms, in the middle of the bible – they help us with the words to use in prayer; they include a comprehensive expression of the full range of our emotions. They help show us how to be honest with God, connect with other believers, and pray with faith and confidence across all life’s circumstances. They model how to transform our hearts to worship, even amidst suffering.
Stream online worship and prayer
Another powerful way of centering yourself on the Lord and saturating your mind and spirit with His presence is through prayerful worship.
We recommend: Upperroom – The Prayer Room
They live stream worshipful prayer sets Monday – Saturday.
