How to become a Christian

God Created You.

Christianity is about reconnecting with a loving God who created you and wants to know you personally. The Bible tells us that God made us for a purpose, but humanity chose to go its own way, a choice that the Bible calls sin. This sin created a separation between us and God, leaving us searching for meaning and purpose.

Prayer to ask Jesus into your heart

The way we bridge the gap created by sin and start a relationship with God is by accepting what Jesus did for us. This is a simple, yet life-changing decision of faith. You can do this right now by praying a simple prayer from your heart.

You might pray something like this:

“Dear God, I’m sorry that I have sinned and have been living life my own way.

Thank you for sending Jesus to die for my sins. Thank you that he defeated death itself and rose again.

I ask you to forgive me and to come into my life. I want to follow you and live in a relationship with you. Amen.”

The moment you make that decision, you become a child of God. The Holy Spirit comes to live inside you, and you are given a fresh start.

3 Ways to Journey with Jesus

Your new life with God is an exciting journey of growth and discovery. Here are some simple, yet important things (Sometimes called ‘Spiritual Disciples’) you can do to help you grow and experience the abundant life God desires to share with you:

1. Read the Bible

The Bible is God’s word to you, revealing who He is and who we are. As you read, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand it. You might want to start with a book like the Gospel of John to get to know Jesus better or the Psalms to learn how to pray.

Buy a physical copy of a bible: There are various different versions – some are easier to understand than others! At Chanctonbury we use New Revised Standard English Version. You can also download the YouVersion bible app for free.

2. Pray

Prayer is simply talking to God. You can talk to Him about anything – your joys, your fears, your questions; share the highs and the lows. Just as in any relationship, communication is key. (Philippians 4:4-8)

Download the Lectio App to help you pray each day.

3. Join a Church

Find a church that believes in the Bible and celebrates the work of the Holy Spirit. This is where you’ll find a community of believers to support, encourage, and grow with you.

Baptism

Baptism is a beautiful, symbolic step you take publicly to declare your faith in Jesus. It shows the world that you’ve been buried with Christ and have been raised to a new life with Him.

Community and Discipleship

A key part of the Christian life is doing it with others. Find other believers who can mentor you and help you grow in your faith. Here at Chanctonbury, we have “KFC’s” (Kingdom Family Communities) where smaller groups of people grow together and support one another in their life and faith.
