First time at Chanc?
Church is like family. Just as families exist in all shapes and sizes, church looks a little different everywhere.
If you’re new or visiting Chanctonbury, here’s what to expect
Welcome team
You’ll be welcomed by our friendly Welcome Team when you arrive. They’re there to greet you, help you find your way around, and answer any questions you might have.
Don’t worry if you are coming alone as they’ll look after you.

Style of Service
At Chanctonbury we offer relaxed, informal and vibrant services. Our spiritual tradition values both welcoming the tangible Presence of God and the Bible; we have an expectation of God’s power in our services as well as placing an importance of teaching the truths of the Bible. Please don’t mistake our lack of formality for lack of sincerity or reverence.

Refreshments and toilets
Coffee and tea will be served at Ashington and Washington. You’re also welcome to bring your own water and hot drink if you like.
Toilets are available at both Ashington and Washington churches. Ashington also has an accessible toilet for those who may need it.
Please note that Buncton Church does not have toilet facilities.

Seating for everyone
There’s a seat for everyone, and you’re welcome to sit wherever you feel most comfortable. There’s no assigned seating, just come in, find a spot, and make yourself at home.
Youth and children often like to sit toward the front, but you’re free to join them or sit anywhere that suits you. Whether you come early or arrive right on time, we’ll make sure you have a place.

Kids and Youth
We cater from Kids and Youth at Ashington but we welcome all ages at all our churches.

Babies and toddlers (and buggies!)
You are welcome to come along with your baby or toddler. Ashington has an area for parents and babies.
What to expect during Worship
The Church service will start with an extended time of worship and singing. This is a time to invite the peace and presence of Jesus. Feel free to listen or join in.

Holy Communion
Although our style is informal and contemporary, we continue the ancient tradition of Holy Communion (also called The Eucharist or The Lord’s Supper), at the heart of Christian worship for 2,000 years. In this moment, we remember God’s love shown through Jesus, receive forgiveness, and are nourished by his presence as we share bread and wine.
During Communion
If you are baptised and love Jesus, you are welcome.
Join the line, hold out your hands to receive the bread (“The body of Christ, broken for you”), and respond “Amen” if you wish.
Receive the wine (“The blood of Christ, shed for you”).
Return to your seat for quiet reflection.
If you’re new or not baptised you are very welcome to come forward for a blessing – simply keep your hands down or crossed over your chest, or remain seated for prayer and reflection.

What to wear
At Chanctonbury, there’s no dress code, come just as you are.
However you’re most comfortable, you’re welcome here. What matters most to us is that you’re with us, not what you’re wearing.
Parking and bike storage
Ashington
Come early to help find a parking space. It is best to park in Ashington Community Centre Car Park (this is not available on weekends with a Toy Fair). Please be considerate and don’t park on the kerb or blocking people’s driveways! Thank you. We are have a few spaces directly in front of the church for people with limited mobility.
Washington
There are a few spaces in front of the church, for accessible parking. Tucked behind the church is a large car park with ample parking.
Buncton
Please park along the roadside at Water Lane near the entrance of the pathway down to the church.
